Service Projects

I really do not have any specific expectations when it comes to the service projects.  I do expect we will continue to get dirty as we have already.  I hope that we will have a lot of fun doing them, sure some parts may be boring, but the fact that we are getting a chance to help this city in its recovery efforts really makes me happy.  I find it great to see that despite the still present damage and the slow recovery, people are happy to be in New Orleans living and working just as it was before Katrina.
The work we have done so far, helping plant aquatic plants in city park, has shown me that there are many different jobs that need completion around the city.  Not only do homes need to be rebuilt and repaired, but the local wetlands and parks also need work.  I am really looking forward to our other service projects, but due to the fact that I am unsure as to what exactly we will be doing in these places,  I am a little apprehensive.  I am sure that everything will be fun, however I have no idea what we are doing at some of the places, especially St. Margaret's Daughters Nursing Home.  I am definitely looking forward to the rebuilding together New Orleans and being able to help out individual people.  While the work we have done so far has been great, our work with individuals is what I am most looking forward to.  I am glad that we are getting this chance to help the city of New Orleans, and I have had fun working here so far.

  1. Hi Roddey,
You wrote "our work with individuals is what I am most looking forward to." Luckily, that is what we will be doing at St. Margaret's. We'll have a choice to assist staff with daily activities (leading games, song, helping residents with daily tasks) or perhaps to work in the garden. By then I think we will all have our fill, momentarily, of the great outdoors and will opt to spend time with the people of St. Margaret's, staff and residents alike, some of whom evacuated Katrina.
