I found this experience especially the Katrina portion of the tour to be one of the most informative parts of our trip. It was far enough along in the trip that I had learned enough to understand the things she was telling us, and early enough that I was able to apply my learning throughout a significant portion of the trip.
Another particularly significant moment of the trip was the last Sunday we were in New Orleans. I was waiting for the streetcar to city park when I found myself in a conversation with a couple visiting from out of town. Not only was I able to give them the information they needed about city park and the streetcar, I was also asked if I was a New Orleans native, which made me feel a little proud of myself.
Nearly everything I did in New Orleans was both enjoyable and rewarding. I hope to be able to return soon (maybe this summer), and show my family around the city I have become familiar with over these last few weeks. While being able to show my parents photos of my trip has been great, I feel like these experiences cannot be accurately conveyed without my parents actually being there in the city. I feel that as I look back on this trip I can say without a doubt that this has been one of the best experiences of my life.
Roddey,
ReplyDeleteWhat a thrill to be identified as a New Orleans native! Well done.
Every trip we take to New Orleans helps the city continue in its rebuilding efforts--even if we simply stay in the Quarter and spend money at restaurants and on tours. Of course, as you know from interviewing Macon, there will always be opportunities to help out Parkway Partners whenever any of us return.
Enjoy the rest of your summer,
