The Times-Picayune has helped me gain a greater knowledge of what has been occurring in and around the city while we have been here. This newspaper has also served as a guide for events going on in the city. I plan to use the newspaper in my final project, by using it as a source for my research on the city, and how the streetcar has influenced it.

Current Plans for Final Project
My current plan for the final project for this course is a documentary on the effects of the New Orleans streetcar on the city. In my documentary I plan to show the way that the streetcar has impacted the city significantly and I will reflect upon how the streetcar has helped me understand the city of New Orleans. The streetcar has been a part of the city for almost 175 years. It one of the few, if not the only, moving historical landmark in the US. In addition, the St. Charles Line is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world. I feel that the streetcar can be used as a metaphor for the city itself.

Roddey,
ReplyDeleteIncluding an image of the streetcar on this post would be effective in helping our non-NOLA readers see how this particular "landmark" hearkens back to an earlier time.
It might also be interesting for you do research a little bit on the history of streetcars in other cities. For example, the book *Fast Food Nation* suggests that in other large cities the streetcar "phased out" with the advent of the automobile.
Eager to see your project!
